Dr Alvin Tang is a well-known expert on Tree Management and Mycology.  His main research interests include the understanding of fungal diversity, tree disease and mushroom cultivation. He received PhD degree in Mycology from the University of Hong Kong in 2006.  Dr Tang was also a recipient of Swire Scholarship for 5 years during his postgraduate study and awarded the Best Presentation in an international conference. Dr Tang served as a Plant Pathologist and Arborist at Muni Arborist Limited.  Thereafter he joined The Hong Kong Baptist University and has been appointed as Course Coordinator and Lecturer of the Tree Management Programme.  His dedication and extensive in teaching were recognized by Hong Kong Baptist University in 2018.

Dr Tang is a holder of ISA Certified Arborist and ISA Certified Tree Risk Assessment Qualification.   He has also collaborated actively with many educational and career institutions in different public education programmes, ranging from public seminars, workshops, local and overseas fieldtrips.  In addition, he has been given numerous invitation to talks on promoting the nature at radio and television stations and was also invited to give training to different governmental departments, such as Highway Department or Water Supplies Department.  As of today, Dr Tang has published 17 research journal papers and wrote a book called “Fascinating Insights into the Mushroom World”, a first book about mushroom in Popular Science in Hong Kong.  He was also cited by 21 magazine articles and has been interviewed by local media nearly 90 times in the last 8 years.
